FOR CARE SETTINGS

Pro Bono Coaching Opportunity for Care Leaders.

Would you or a colleague like some ring-fenced time, confidential space and an empathic listener to put the world on pause. To reflect, think, plan and gain a fresh perspective on a particular issue, challenge or situation?

As everyone is aware, the last couple of years have been a particularly difficult and demanding time for those working in social care.

Nor are the challenges over yet.

Balancing the safety and needs of elders, residents, families and team members; keeping abreast of fast changing regulations; recruiting and retaining capable, motivated team members and maintaining quality of care are just a few of the urgent concerns for leaders.  Having an opportunity in the midst of all this to look after oneself, to reflect and to consider the lived-out values that are so essential to true person-centred care may seem almost impossible.

A coach is often described as a ’thinking partner’.

Rather than giving advice or using therapeutic approaches, a coach is focused on working with people to expand their own thinking, creativity and resourcefulness when they feel challenged. This may be thinking through and gaining a perspective on the options around a practical question or issue, or an opportunity to reflect on and clarify their own values, purpose and motivation.   Coaching is now often used in business and corporate organisations to empower creative solution finding and prevent burnout.  It is cited as a strategy to embed well-being in the Government’s current policy paperPutting People At The Heart Of Care.

Clear agreement and contracting ensures that the coaching conversaton is completely confidential and focused on what is important and interesting to you. You are in charge at all times. The process is separate from, and complimentary to, existing line management or supervision structures, and supports the person to return to their roles with renewed energy and insight

Having had experience in supporting leaders of care and education settings, I am especially interested in researching further how coaching conversations can support those trying to do so much for others.  Working with leaders in the care sector would give me an opportunity to gain further understanding of the kind of coaching support that those working in these challenging and essential services would find useful and may also provide the possibility of testimonials or referrals.

I am a qualified and accredited member of the International Coaching Federation and abide strictly by their code of ethics.  I have full insurance and ongoing, online DBS clearance to work with vulnerable adults and with children.
